coen brothers post!

the coen brothers are one of my favorite directors so far in this class, and maybe just in the real world. thats why im gonna make a connection from no country for old men to a real world situation. i believe no country is a dramatisized version of drug trafficing in our country. i believe that stuff like in no country does happen all the time. however i dont believe it happens on such a scale that no country does but it does happen. the scene that pops out to me is the end scene where lewellen was killed is very realistic and i think that kind of stuff happens all the time over money especially over such a large amount of money. also u always hear about guy in hotel shot dead or drive by shooting stuff like that makes that scene very realistic to me. a second scene that sticks out to me is when lewellen finds the trucks at the beginning of the movie and every one is dead. to me i think thats what actually would happen, i dont think every body would be killed but i do think that thats the kind of setting and place that drug trafficers would meet and do business. also the ending to me seems kind of resembling to how the real drug lords or the real bad guys dont usually get caught they somehow get away clean. also how the drugs continually get across our boarders with out us knowing or realizing that they have.

Altman post

for this post i thought i could relate the movie nashville to a kind of current event. i think the tupac notorious B.I.G. killing were, to me atleast, similar in retrospect. all having to do with the killing of huge music icons of the time wether it was barbra jean in the 70's or tupac and biggie smalls in the 90's. in nashville there was alot of political stuff going around and there was always the voice supporting the person running for the president. barbra jeans husband didnt want her to sing at the one place if there was gonna be political referances in the background but she did anyway and got herself killed while on the other hand tupac and biggie smalls were gangstas that spoke out against the government and put alot of thing out there for people to hear. and alot of people listened to them. but in the end biggie and tupac were gunned down just like barbra jean. also i think in class we talked about nashville sparking the killings of movie or music stars. so that is a good tie in to this is maybe if this movie wasnt put out there they would be alive but i dont think it would have mattered personally. nashville also depicted alot of people and alot of different personalitys which is a good representation of our society today the crazy, the talented the cheaters, the swingers, the ddoubters, the people who think they r talented but really arent. nashville is just a good representation of our society and can also tie into current events like the killings of tupac and biggie smalls

Dirty Harry!!!

dirty harry was a fantasic movie and had alot of similarites to some other eastwood movies. the basic plot is a crazy killer who is just killing people so the gov will give him 200000 dollars. and this movie also consisted of one of the greatest lines in the history of forever. "are you feeling lucky.... are ya punk!!" adding to clint eastwoods bad ass ness. but Harry Callahan will see to it that this killer will be shown justice through the law or not. this movie like in grand torino however not as bad but it had alot of racial slurs in it. whether it was the 70s or just the way he wanted it to be it had a strong resemblence to grand torino. another common link in all his films is violence and a good old fashion ass kicking. this movie was actually more graphic then i thought they had the technology for but i guess i was shown wrong. this movie didnt have dim lighting like iwo jima but it did have a lot of scenes at night or in the bright of day which i though was a good addition but was also trying to send a message off the difference between day and night. and also another similarity in his movies was the idea of sex or nudity. Dirty Harry had alot of nudity and stuff like that. the psycho killer murdered a nude girl by putting her in a hole to sufficate. and there was other nude scenes like that. but overall eastwood is a fabulous man who will always take some names and kick some ass never foget that.!

Romantic comedy blog!

the romantic comedy was one that i enjoyed very much. i like comedy's in general so romantic comedy was a thing o look forward to. however, romantic comedy is not just like a normal comedy it involves a man and a women and usually the man trying to win the girl back. its got a more distinct plot line than just a basic comedy i believe. also romantic comedy's are viewed more as chick flicks but after giving them a chance i don't mind them. i mean i can see where u could call them chick flicks but they can sometimes be really good. my favorite movie of that genre was eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. it wasn't a normal romantic comedy however. it was more sad and the lighting was darker than a typical happy bright lighting romantic comedy. but it had the guy who wanted the girl and the whole movie was about him trying to win her back. the ending also wasn't a normal romantic comedy ending. it ended up with the to of them back together but you know that they are eventually going to break up again and do it ll over. i found that weird coming from a romantic comedy. but i like this whole unit it was one of my favorites so far. but we will see where it ranks in the end.

noir blog

film noir was a very interesting unit i didnt even know it was such a thing before this class so i found it new and exciting. we started out with out of the past which was a very classic film noir. it fits the mold in every way. the femme fatale was second to none she was very pretty and sudctive but she will stab u in the back when ever she got the oppertunity. the main character (i forgot his name) was the classic hard-boiled detective. he was very smooth good at his job while easily sudduced by women. it was set in the time period which was a huge part of the genre. it was set in late to early 30s and 40s. during the great depression and start of war. then we went to kiss me deadly which on a personal note wasnt the best movie i have ever seen. but it was a good film noir it had a femme fatale in that blonde "roommate" who was very tricky i didnt even think she was gonna turn out to the femme fatale. she gain mike hammers trust till he led her to the box then ditched him. mike hammer was a very good hard boiled detective not as good as the guy from oput of the past but a close second and his name is the coolest thing ever. but he was less easily suduced but still got trick by the lady. and the ending of that movie was the worst ive seen no offense to anybody who liked it but this is my blog so i can say wat i want. and the last movie we viewed was great but probs the least film noir of the three it wasnt based in the time period and was in color. so i dont know how noir it really was but plot wise and just based off overall enjoyment it was my favorite. however there was a femme fatale in evelen and gities was a good hard boiled detective who was played great by a young jack nicholus or however u spell it but overall i enjoyed the film noir unit cause it was a new thinng and i was very curious. NOIR IS SWEEEEET!

the western

for this blog i will talk about the shootings or killings of people. i will compare the 2 movies we did in class Unforgiven and Stagecoach. first off with Stagecoach it showed the good guys found it easy to kill. this is how i pictured the classic westen, as just a straight shootout and no emotion is showed befor or after a killing or death. the scene that really stands out to me was the indian chase scene. it didnt matter to anybody on the stagecoach who was shot as long as it wasnt themselves. they were pickin them off like rabbits or something. most everybody was so single minded in that and just focused on personal stuff rather than protection for the big group. Stagecoach was a very good movie to show the classic westerns view on killing people, however their is 2 ends to this spectrum as showed in Unforgiven.

Unforgiven was on the complete other side of this whole no emotion into killings/shootings. all three of the main characters found it very hard to kill someone. whether it was the schofeild kid after he killed that guy in the outhouse. after he did that he pretty much had a mental breakdown for a while. he admitted how he had never killed a guy before and how he never thought it would be so hard to do. then there was Ned who initially shot the one bad cowboys horse, but couldnt finish him off. after will finished him Ned left the group because he couldnt force himself to kill anymore and there mission was one of killing. Will also had a little trouble in the same scene as ned. he would keep stalling and wasteing time and when he finally got him he made the cowboys friend give him water. so killing in both Stagecoach and Unforgiven were portrayed in to very different manners while killing seemed easy and noble in Stagecoach, it was frowned upon and hard to do in Unforgiven.

journal 3: Pan's labyrinth

Pans labyrinth by Guillermo Del Toro was a very good well put toghether movie with many little things that made the movie more intriguing. 1 of those thing was the music and sounds that Del Toro added or directed. Del toro used an original score of music in this film. i have never heard it befor it was all orchestra and a very good one at that. their was now music from like the radio or any music with sounds it was all orchestra. Javier Navarret was the composer of this musical set. he made many great musical decisions like i felt that when we were on Ofelia the music was more upbeat or higher pitched and kept u on the edge. i think Javier did this because he wanted the audience to be curious as to what she is going to do or what is going to happen to her. the music also helped the watcher feel what Ofleia was thinking so to say. like you could tell she was confused by the music or you could tell she was excited by the music. i also noticed that it was the opposite with the captin. he got all the evil slower more sinister music to show that he was the bad guy who represented evil and all that was wrong in the world. therewas also a special set of music for the faun that no othe characters got. it was either really fairy tale like music when he was talking to her. or it was very angry or upset music when she didnt listen to him. for example when she ate the grapes and got 2 of his fairies killed he was very angery and was like an upset sourcerer music. it was really cool. the effectsthat Javier was going for was to get the watcher into each characters mind set and set the mood. he did a very good job. i think themusic was even more important because it was all in spanish so i had to pay more attention to the finner details. but over all the music was a powerful tool to this movie. maybe thats why it was so good and so easy to get into.!!!
